Long, narrow plot make-over

Before redesign

For this typical long narrow terrace garden the brief was to create an outside space with plenty of room for planting and a place for relaxing and entertaining.

This garden is south east facing so the back of the garden gets all the evening sun, the perfect place for a patio and raised herb garden. The rest of the garden is made up of a stepping stone and a gravel path with two beds either side, one sunny and one shady, big enough to house a real variety of both sun and shade loving plants.

Colour was a very important aspect of this design with the plants being the main focus of the garden. We decided to keep things simple by sticking to a colour palette of purples, blues and whites complimented by strong contrasting foliage and neutral hard landscaping materials. The look was completed by painting the fence a classic duck egg blue, which really set off the rest of the colours in the garden.
